Social on the Go

Mobile and location data are playing a big and increasing role in social media. During 2011, over 30% of US online users accessed social network sites from their mobile phone at least monthly. Similarly, more than 40% of Facebook users access the site through mobile devices (according to WGSN).

Supposedly there are now more people in the world with cellular access than there are with electricity.

In many locations around the world the mobile phone has become the single most important device for reaching consumers, while customers are sharing their lives on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Foursquare and Pinterest.

During the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day, smart phone users downloaded more than 1 billion apps for the first time ever in a week-long period. Companies like Sprout Social are helping brands hawk it all.

Sprout Social has a web application that integrates with Twitter, Facebook Fan Pages, LinkedIn, Foursquare and other networks where consumers are engaging with businesses and brands.

You can keep up with the busy world of mobile app marketing by following @flurrymobile on Twitter. Flurry is a leading mobile app analytics & data-powered advertising platform. Flurry recently found that mobile usage has surged with people spending 94 minutes per day in mobile apps compared to only 72 minutes on the web.

Do you know what your website looks like on all mobile phones?  Mobile-friendly sites are purposely made for the small screen and aren’t just shrunken down versions of your regular website. Google has created an imitative that will help you learn how. How to Go Mo will get you started in the right direction.
